Nasa Juno Mission sends the first two images of the giant moon of Jupiter

The Juno mission of NASA returned its first two closet images of the giant moon of Jupiter Giant Ganmede, giving the public their first look at the surface of the moon in two decades. Juno has been collecting the moon of Jupiter yesterday, June 7, scoring the first time that a spaceship has become closer to Ganymede for more than 20 years, according to the spatial agency.

Ganymede is the largest moon of the solar system and the only one of its kind known to have a magnetic field. Scientists know a lot about the moon, including it has a metal core, it is widely composed of water and rock silicate, and that its surface is covered with two different types of terrain, a full of craters of shock and the other covered with long grooves and ridges.

These field features are important in the first two close-up images of Ganymede Juno, that NASA has published one day after the flyby. One of the images was captured using the Junocam, while the other comes from the stellar reference unit camera.

The bright and dark grounds of this massive moon are visible in the images, as well as the characteristics of the common crater on a ground and the grooves of the other. The image is gray at that time because the spacecraft used its green filter to capture the initial image.

NASA says Juno will subsequently use its blue and red filters to capture additional images, allowing the space agency to release a color image of the moon. The resolution of this image is about 0.6 miles for each pixel, putting its massive size on a scale. The image above has a slightly smaller resolution and has the dark side of the moon, which is away from the sun.
