Samsung Isocell Jn1 shrinks a 50 MP sensor up to 0.64 micropixels

Since smartphone cameras begin to take more and more pixels, they have also started more and larger. As with the processors, the challenge for image sensors is to reach as many photodiodes on a small surface without expanding the size of that surface. That is the achievement that Samsung is boasting with its new ISOCELL JN1 that is capable of CRAM 50 million pixels in the size of a 1 / 2.76 inch format sensor. However, if you are able to take better or similar photos, since Samsung’s largest 50MP sensors remain tested.

There are some analogies between the problems faced by sensors and image processors when faced more photodiodes or resistance in the same or smaller amount of space. For digital camera sensors, that means a little cross-conversation between diodes, reducing the resulting image quality. Samsung addresses this with its NEXT-GEN ISOCELL 2.0 technology that also improves the amount of light that meets those sensors.

This new technology will be critical about the success of its new ISOCELL JN1 CMOS sensor due to its use of 0.64 μm-pixels (micropixels). The cross conversation is even more likely with such small pixels, but it is also the likelihood of a reduced light absorption, where isocel 2.0 is. Samsung is also boasting of the sensor’s intelligent ISO feature, changing between low or high ISO levels, depending on the brightness settings.

Apart from those, the ISOCELL JN1 also comes with Samsung’s new double super PD that uses oval-shaped micro-lenses to improve the phase detection autofocus. The sensor is capable of recording 4K at 60 fps, but also of 240 fps slowly, but only in FHD resolutions. The sensor uses a four-to-one tetrapixel binning to shoot bright images of 12.5MP even in low light, effectively rotates the 0.64 micropixel in a micropixel sensor of 12.5MP 1.28.

Samsung says that Isocell Jn1 is already in mass production already, so the telephones that carry the sensor should not be far away. The 1 / 2.76-inch sensor is compatible with 1/28 inches products, so that the sensor can be used almost any function, from ultra-wide cameras to the telephoto cameras to high-quality front chambers.
